Located on Namibia’s Atlantic coast, Walvis Bay is rapidly transforming from a logistics hub into the core of the country’s green hydrogen ambitions. At a recent forum, officials and developers highlighted multi-billion-dollar projects underway in the area, targeting up to 500,000 tonnes of ammonia output and thousands of jobs.

  • Walvis Bay is home to at least five major green hydrogen and ammonia projects, forming a concentrated cluster that is quickly establishing the city as Namibia’s premier hydrogen investment and industrial centre.

  • With its deep-water port, abundant renewable energy and upgraded infrastructure, Walvis Bay serves as a strategic hub, efficiently connecting inland production sites to global ammonia and hydrogen markets.

  • Our take: Walvis Bay’s integrated approach offers a blueprint for other African countries seeking to establish sustainable, industrial-scale green hydrogen hubs……..Read more (2 min)

For the fourth time in as many months, countries in the southernmost part of Africa are leading recruitment in the green hydrogen sector. The region accounts for 17 of the 22 roles available this month, spread across South Africa and Namibia. By country, South Africa remains the frontrunner, with 14 open positions.

  • Engineering roles dominate this month’s listings, with more than ten positions focused on project, technical and hybrid energy engineering.

  • The listings show a diverse mix of employers, including consultancies, project developers and enablers, as recruitment expands beyond project development into advisory, policy  and implementation support roles across the ecosystem.

Belgium-based clean fuels company CMB.TECH is strengthening its presence across Africa, with new hiring patterns revealing a shift from technical project delivery to commercial and organisational scaling. An analysis of the company’s LinkedIn data shows a pivot from engineering-heavy roles towards commercialisation and operational growth.

  • Business development and HR roles grew 100% year on year, far outpacing other functions, a sign that CMB.TECH’s push for shipping decarbonisation via green hydrogen and ammonia is shifting from demonstration to structured commercial operations.

  • With an average tenure of just 0.5 years in business development, the shift is both recent and deliberate, reflecting Africa’s wider hydrogen trend towards scaling and market maturity.

  • Our take: Africa’s hydrogen industry is maturing, with the focus shifting from proving technology to building the institutions and talent needed for long-term impact….Read more (2 min)
